On Good & Bad Design in Education

You all know my usual appeal.
I'll illustrate it here with groups of youth
  • actively
  • enthusiastically
  • collaboratively
  • project-minded
  • involved in learning.
Good thoughtful insightful design.

Environments that more closely simulate performance context - their work place in the future.

And then, groups of youth, learners
  • separated
  • disconnected
  • decontextualized
  • test-minded
  • passively submitting to education.

Not necessarily bad design, design for something other than learning - becoming "another brick in the wall," cogs in the machine of the industrial age.

Environments that simulate the workplace of the past.
